I’m a twenty something year old on a journey of adventure and soul searching to find his true self.
I’m not the most adventurous or outgoing type….. at least until October of 2015. I’ve always said I wanted to travel, but was scared to do it alone, or even with people.
I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere New Jersey. (No, New Jersey is not summed up as the Jersey shore…Newark…Camden…etc) I was always shy and not confident as my best friend from childhood turned against me and wouldn’t defend the onslaught of the rest of the kids bullying me. This was damaging to a growing mind that could have been full of excitement and adventure. Enough about my past, time to move back into the present.
I was on the breaking point, not knowing what the next day would bring, and I finally told myself that I would do something crazy that I would have never done in a thousand years. I decided that I was going to go travel for two weeks. The question was where… Backpacking in Europe? Travel to Australia? Maybe hit up all the Providences in Canada? All of these were great ideas; however they would require some additional planning. I did not have this time to plan. Being a simple minded Jersey boy, I decided middle of the week that I was going to drive across the USA and hit up as many states as possible. No real plans, nothing really set in stone.
Not a day passed when I realized that I knew people from all across this country. College buddies, fraternity brothers and their significant others, friends from high school, even an ex co-worker. I decided to reach out to them to let them know about my adventure, and each one was more than willing to see me, and I still can’t thank them enough as my trip would not have been as memorable as it turned out.
My adventure will be broken down into each major stop I made. Illinois, Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, and Illinois once again. This trip was life changing and I wish I could have spent more time in each location and explored more than I did.
